By: Priya Rana

Introduction
The Philippines has come up with a great gift for Indian travellers. Now Indian citizens will be able to travel to the Philippines without a visa under two special categories. This decision has been announced by the Philippines Embassy in India and it is expected to give a good boost to tourism between the two countries. Known for its amazing coastlines, beautiful islands and clean seas, the Philippines can now become the new favourite destination of Indian tourists.

14 Days Free Entry Facility
Indian passport holders will no longer need a visa to visit the Philippines for 14 days under a new arrangement. This scheme is only for tourism purposes and this period cannot be extended. Travellers can enter the country through airports, sea ports or cruise terminals.

The necessary conditions for this are:

  1. The trip should be for the purpose of sightseeing only.
  2. The validity of the passport should be at least six months after the end of the trip.
  3. Hotel booking or stay details and return or onward travel tickets are a must.
  4. Proof of financial capability is a must, such as bank balance or job-related documents.
  5. There should be no false immigration records in the Philippines before.

Visa-free travel for 30 days (for visa/PR holders of AJACSSUK countries)
Indian nationals who hold a valid visa or permanent residency of Australia, Japan, USA, Canada, Schengen countries, Singapore or the UK will now get visa-free entry to the Philippines for up to 30 days. Travellers availing of this special exemption have to follow certain conditions.

Key requirements:

  1. Must hold a valid visa or permanent residency in any of the countries mentioned above.
  2. Passport valid for at least six months.
  3. A confirmed return or onward travel ticket is a must.
  4. There should be no negative immigration information of any kind.
  5. This scheme is for travel purposes only and cannot be extended.

E-Visa Option Still Open
For travellers who do not fall under these two exemptions, the e-Visa system remains in place as before. The 9(a) Temporary Visitor Visa allows Indian nationals to stay in the Philippines for up to 30 days. Applications can be made through the online portal.

Documents required:

  1. Valid Indian passport
  2. Photo and government ID
  3. Confirmation of stay (hotel booking)
  4. Return or other destination ticket
  5. Proof of financial means
